Today, This Day

Today, This Day is one of those projects that doesn't come along often. No ad agency, no brand, no commission, we made this short film purely just to make something. When wunderkind cinematographer Josua Stabler approached me with two leftover rolls of 35mm stock and said, "let's just go make something, anything!", I couldn't say no. We loved (at the time) the challenge of shooting a narrative short with just two 400' rolls of film and really embraced the discipline it would take to rehearse and make sure that every foot counted. It kind of felt like film school days but without the burden of professors and rules!   I extended a long Berlin layover into a week, in which we endeavored to write, prep, and shoot the film. Short on time, filmstock, and cast, I spent a couple days struggling to write a micro-short script while dancing up to every single person with a buzzed head at Berghain in hopes to cast enough kids to overflow a Volvo station wagon. We were incredibly lucky with the epic cast in the end - and our hero Konsti even shaved his head AND eyebrows down to skin (bless you boy!). Josua assembled an absolute dream team of crew who all donated their time and artistry to the film in more ways than I could ever have hoped for.   This film isn't perfect, but it's the byproduct of friends getting together to just create, which is a special thing unto itself. I had forgotten what it is like to make something just for the sake of making something. And what a privilege it is to be able to do that in this day and age. Just imagine what life would be like if we all would create more for the sake of creating! Or if what we made wasn't all for brands or social traction! Or if we had more than two rolls of film stock to work with!   Written and Directed by: James Marcus Haney Starring: Konstantin Duemchen              Eef Andriessen                         Kira Probst        Marc Mueller      Harry Card                                Sani Japaridze Salix Brown                              Samuele Txebarria                  Hueseyin  Director of Photography: Josua Stäbler Produced by:  Malte Saher Hesam Ayat Co-Produced by: RadicalMedia Berlin Executive Producer: Ben Schneider  Music "Intro/Dirty Money" by Dirty Money "Heavy Pop" by Wu Lyf Hair and Makeup : Berenice Amman                       Eva Herbohn Darja Crain Set Design:Kayra Aslan 1st AC: Samuel Emmer 1st AC: Florian Bellack 2nd AC: Valentin Kühn 2nd AC: Friedrich Kreyenberg Steadicam: Max Egner Grip: Felix Schüler Sound Design and Mix: Julian Lindenmann VO Recordist: Harry Card Filmlab: Cinegrell Berlin Shot on Kodak Vision3
